Prevention in economy, science, politics and administration

"Prevention through dialogue and information sharing"

The knowledge and innovation skills of German companies and research institutions are key to the German economy's competitiveness. They are at the heart of a leading international role in many areas.

Not only the competitors, but also foreign countries are very interested in German expertise. Spying out other countries' businesses is among the tasks assigned to many foreign intelligence services. Such economic espionage is aimed at enhancing the respective country's technological development by using intelligence measures to access the knowledge of foreign companies.

In principle, the responsibility for corporate safety and for the protection of know-how lies with the companies themselves. Still, in terms of prevention, BfV shares intelligence and analyses of its own with the entities concerned, thus helping any players in the fields of economy, science, politics and administration to effectively protect themselves against being spied out (especially against illegal transfer of knowledge and technology), against sabotage, and against the threats emanating from extremism and terrorism.

BfV works in close co-operation with national and international partners with the aim of offering preventive measures tailored to the target group. In this context, the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz constantly exchanges information with the domestic intelligence services of the federal states, with other federal security agencies as well as with trade associations, companies, and security experts.

Furthermore, BfV is one of the partners committed to the "Initiative Wirtschaftsschutz" (Economic Security Initiative) launched in 2016 by state and industrial entities to improve business security. (https://www.wirtschaftsschutz.info.)

Ensuring a confidential atmosphere, BfV's prevention team will be glad to answer any questions you as a player in the fields of economy, science, politics or administration may have concerning any of the topics dealt with by BfV.
