Vice-President Sinan Selen

Biography

Sinan Selen was born in Istanbul/Turkey in 1972. He read law at Cologne University focussing on home affairs and judicial policies in Europe/in European law.

Between 2000 and 2006, he fulfilled a variety of police tasks at the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

In late 2006, Sinan Selen left BKA to join the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), where he became head of the section dealing with "Terrorism of Foreigners/Extremism of Foreigners" within the counter-terrorism unit.

Between 2009 and 2012, he held the position of permanent deputy to the head of the Department for Combatting Crime in the Federal Police Headquarters. Apart from the fields of combatting crime and counter-terrorism, at the time he was also tasked with fighting piracy.

From 2012, he was charged with operational issues of countering terrorism within BMI's Directorate-General for Public Security.

In 2016, Sinan Selen left BMI and joined the TUI Group, where he developed the Group's security architecture. The central element of his work was to co-ordinate and interlink various parts of the company on an international level, to create uniform structures, standards and processes, particularly in the fields of cyber security and crisis management, as well as to analyse vulnerabilities and risks in all corporate processes.

Since 21 January 2019, Sinan Selen has been one of BfV's Vice-President.
