New Director General of the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz:
Appointment of Sinan Selen
08.10.2025
Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt has appointed Sinan Selen Director General of the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV) today. As the 15th Director General of BfV, Sinan Selen thus succeeds former Director General Thomas Haldenwang.
Sinan Selen has held various positions at federal security authorities and the Federal Ministry of the Interior and has also worked as head of security at an international company. He became Deputy Director General at BfV in 2019 and has been temporarily in charge of BfV together with Deputy Director General Dr Silke Willems since Mr Haldenwang’s retirement.
As he takes up his role as Director General, Sinan Selen states: “Our security and our democracy are exposed to multipolar threats in the shape of espionage, cyber attacks and sabotage by external actors and foreign states. International terrorism and action-oriented extremism are key challenges that we respond to together with the other authorities of the security community; as a counter-intelligence service, BfV has a particularly important role to play in this context.”
